Why Garden?

Many people play in dirt for many of reasons. Kids make mud pies, build mud and sand castles, dig for gold etc. For me its a means of healthy survival and empowerment. Much like my grandfather, gardening provides wealth, healing and a since of accomplishment. I never once new a farmer or gardener who was mad at his crops. Garden also allows peaceful meditation and a place for serenity if you are stressed.

Benefits of Gardening?

I use most of my vegetables and fruit for a personal health ailments but gardening has had an economic benefit for my household on groceries. In 2013, I saved $589. In 2014 I saved $438. In 2015 I have saved $503. To create a savings projection I have created a excel spreadsheet and entered the fruits and vegetables that I have grown and harvested. Then I would compare those prices to those in the local stores such as Kroger, Publix and Wal-mart. Regardless of the store, I have had a profit in my home grown foods. Additionally, I do not use any pesticides so my veggies are always safe to eat.
